A one-person artist collective. Through music, words, images and education, I try to make the world a little more beautiful.

Composition

Classical music, music for dance, musicals, pop songs, cabaret songs, film scores, advertising jingles, television themes, and children’s songs.

Elaia

Classical chamber music that seeks connection with contemporary stories in a timeless idiom.

De Allermooiste Rotstad

Originally written for a student musical, the song was embraced by the people of Rotterdam and is now considered the city’s unofficial anthem.

The Dance

A short film produced in 48 hours, with all music composed, recorded and mixed during that period.

3 is a Crowd

Music composed for a dance performance choreographed by Sanne Clifford.

Like a Jellyfish

A song that once came to our rescue when we were stuck in Transnistria.

Performance

From the intimate Toomler to the majestic Carré. From festival stages to theatres, TV shows and recording studios. From weddings and funerals to concert halls — from Sweden to Spain. Wherever music is needed. Versatility and flexibility are my hallmarks.

Piano and Accordeon

Amir plays music in every style, with passion and a keen sense of context. Thousands of melodies at his fingertips — and an endless supply of new ones created on the spot.

Instant Classical

Classical improvisations, both solo and in collaboration with musicians such as Sietse van Gorkom.

Paramo Orchestra

A flexible ensemble consisting of musicians fluent in both classical and light music, founded and led by Amir. Here you see them performing an arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in Barcelona, following a last-minute audience request.

Tekst

My brother taught me to read when he was seven and I was four. He sat across from me, which is why I spent my early years reading books upside down — a skill that still proves useful in restaurants with only one menu to share.

I once dreamed of becoming a writer. I’ve yet to write a book, but I’ve written plenty of words: poems, lyrics, columns, blogs, screenplays, articles, letters. Some playful, some profound. For myself, and for others.

Usually I write in Dutch, to see some samples, switch to the Dutch version of this site.

Visual art

Paintings and drawings

Cat, pen drawing
Self Portrait, Oil painting
Portait, pencil drawing
Ibu holding bread, oil painting
Cat, water colour
Portrait, Oil painting

Teaching

I teach piano, composition and music theory — to motivated beginners and advanced students alike. Good piano lessons are always tailor-made. What do you want to learn? What music do you listen to? When you work with music you love, study turns into pleasure. And whether you’re exploring Bach or the Bee Gees, you’ll eventually encounter the same things.

Here, music isn’t a cue for dance, nor the foundation from which movement arises — no, the music is the dance.

Kester Frerik

in Theaterkrant

“Let’s put it this way: without the music, it might have worked for 40 percent of the people — with the music, for 90.”

Joost van Ginkel

in NRC

I now realise that Amir was the mentor I missed at the conservatory — the one who, early on, taught me what making music is really about.

Daan Sanders

in Groene Amsterdammer
